Fall 2021 Chapter Meeting Plans and Call for Presentations

Thank you to everyone who participated in our survey regarding the fall chapter meeting. A bit more than 70% favored the in-person meeting, so that is what we will shoot for. Most everyone would like to also see the meeting viewable online, so we will be doing our best to produce this fall’s meeting as a hybrid.

Tangent: has anyone in this group been involved with running a hybrid meeting? Is there anything we should watch out for? Feel free to discuss on-list OR email me privately. I’ve done a lot of Zooming, but I have never run a hybrid, so I am a little nervous about setting that up and executing smoothly.

Our Fall chapter meeting will take place on November 5, at NYPL’s BookOps in Long Island City. We hope to open in our traditional manner with mingling, coffee, and pastries at 9:30am, convening the meeting proper at 10am.

CALL FOR PRESENTATIONS

Are you working on anything fun to talk about? Something that other music librarians might find interesting? Something you would like to promote? Do you need one more professional presentation for your promotion/tenure portfolio? We want to hear it! Please send your proposal to your chapter officers:

  • Greg Sigman, chair, sigmang@newschool.edu
  • Alica Stephen, vice-chair, alicastephens@bookops.org
  • Ethan D’Ver, secretary-treasurer, edver@juilliard.edu

Proposals should include a brief description of your topic, how much time you need/would like, and if you can come to the meeting in person or will make a remote presentation. I think the equipment to support a remote presentation is already available at BookOps, but we will need to be certain it is an option before committing to a remote presenter. Recent topics have included research on particular performers, the makeup of orchestras, talking about member publications, particular library & ensemble collections, collaborative efforts between member institutions, and more. So, if you think, “this is not appropriate for GNYMLA”, you should still submit. I tend to think that if it is something a GNYMLA member is working on, then it is, by definition, of interest to the chapter. Hope to see you all in November!

Best,

Greg
